Join us,Emory Market Gardens (EMG), and the North Texas Mycological Association (NTMA) for an exciting and educational day of foraging, delicious food, and community! We are so excited to host them for the first time in our very own backyard!
This event is FREE and open to everyone, from novice nature lovers to experienced foragers.

Full Day Schedule
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Mushroom Foraging with NTMA Experts
Walk the woods with seasoned mycologists. You'll learn how to safely and responsibly identify wild mushrooms and contribute to local science by uploading photos to the NTMA iNaturalist project!
12:00 PM | Chef Duane Miller Cooking Demo & Lunch
Acclaimed Chef Duane Miller will host a live cooking demonstration, serving delicious food made with fresh produce and gourmet mushrooms from Emory Market Gardens.
12:00 PM – 3:00 PM | Facility Tour & Community Hangout
Enjoy the demonstration snacks, chat with the NTMA and EMG teams, and take a tour of the Emory Market Gardens facilities and market garden.
Know Before You Go
Please come prepared for a morning of active outdoor exploration!
What to Bring:
Please pack water, any snacks, sunscreen, and wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for hiking through wooded areas while foraging. Notebook, camera, and mushroom identification books optional but recommended to document your discoveries!
What You'll Learn:
You'll get hands-on experience foraging and learn identification techniques, including how to document your finds for the NTMA's project tracking the diversity of fungi in our region.
Location & Directions
We will be meeting at the Caney Point Recreation Area, which is located on the west bank of the east fork of Lake Fork Reservoir. The park features an 8,000 sq ft pavilion, a large outdoor event area, restrooms, and plenty of truck and trailer parking (245 spaces).
Getting There:
- From Quitman: Take SH 154 north. The park is on the left after crossing the SH 154 bridge over Lake Fork.
- From Yantis: Take SH 154 south. The park is on the right before the SH 154 bridge.
